Self-Supporting Steel Chimney

A self supporting chimney, also called a self supported chimney or free-standing chimney, is designed to carry its own structural loads through the chimney shell and foundation without relying on guy wires or an external supporting tower. This independent structure makes it particularly useful where project owners want to reduce the space occupied by external support systems or where the chimney needs to be installed as a standalone part of the plant.

Unlike a simple exhaust pipe, an industrial self-supporting chimney must be engineered to withstand both operating conditions and environmental loads. The structural configuration therefore needs to be confirmed together with the chimney height, exhaust conditions and project location.

The sleeve anticorrosive self supporting steel chimney is an invention patent of Rainbow. This self supported chimney structure is mainly composed of an outer cylinder, inner cylinder, heat insulation layer, and air layer. The outer cylinder supports the cylinder part and resists atmospheric corrosion; the inner cylinder has the function of smoke exhaust and anti-corrosion. The heat insulation layer controls the flue gas temperature, preventing it from transferring to the outer cylinder, avoiding condensation on the cylinder wall, and stabilizing the flue gas flow rate and temperature of the inner cylinder. The air layer acts as the second insulation line and provides space for axial displacement to prevent huge thermal expansion forces from damaging the inner cylinder.
