Suzhou Rainbow Environmental Equipment Co., Ltd. (Rainbow) has announced the successful completion of its work for the GDS Hong Kong Project, marking a significant milestone in the company's expansion in the high-performance exhaust system market. The project involved the supply and engineering of 13 sets of diesel generator exhaust ducts, supporting the operational reliability of one of Hong Kong's major data center developments.

Built to meet the demanding requirements of mission-critical facilities, the project demonstrates Rainbow's ability to design and deliver advanced exhaust solutions in challenging climatic and structural environments. With growing investment in digital infrastructure across the Asia-Pacific region, Rainbow's participation underscores its strengthening capabilities and international presence in the data center sector.

Engineering Scope and High-Demand Operating Conditions

The GDS Hong Kong Project required Rainbow to deliver a complete dual-layer stainless-steel exhaust duct system that meets stringent performance, safety, and compliance standards. The building reaches 100 meters in height, and the diesel generator sets operate with exhaust temperatures as high as +565°C. These conditions demand exceptional thermal resistance, airtightness, and structural durability from the exhaust system.

Environmental factors further intensify the engineering complexity. The site is located in a coastal zone classified as Terrain Category 0 under EN1991-1-4, representing areas close to open sea or exposed coastal regions. The climatic conditions include a basic wind pressure of 1.98 kPa based on HKWC2019 standards at a 10-meter height. Under these conditions, Rainbow carried out complete wind load and bearing capacity calculations to ensure that both indoor and outdoor duct sections remain stable and secure throughout long-term operation.

The exhaust pipeline is divided into two sections:

    • Indoor Section – Installed horizontally with suspension brackets supplied by Rainbow.

    • Outdoor Section – Installed vertically against the building façade, supported by brackets provided by the project owner.

A flange connection links the exhaust duct to the diesel generator silencer outlet, ensuring excellent airtightness. The transition between horizontal and vertical ducts is designed with a T-shaped connector equipped with a drainage outlet to manage condensate efficiently. At the top of the vertical exhaust duct, a bird-proof mesh is installed to protect the system from external obstructions.

One of the core design requirements was that the outer wall temperature of the exhaust duct must not exceed +60°C (excluding ambient temperature). Rainbow's dual-layer stainless-steel structure ensures that the duct remains free from discoloration, yellowing, or cracking, even under extreme operating temperatures and continuous use.

Certified Quality and Solid Market Credentials in Hong Kong

The project imposed strict qualification standards on equipment suppliers. Manufacturers providing dual-layer stainless-steel exhaust systems were required to demonstrate actual application experience in Hong Kong and to hold a CE certification under the EN1856-1 standard, issued by TÜV SÜD—an internationally recognized conformity assessment body. Rainbow met and exceeded these requirements, highlighting its commitment to globally accepted quality and safety standards.

Completion of the GDS Hong Kong Project further reinforces Rainbow's position as a reliable partner in high-end engineering environments. The successful delivery reflects the company's strengths in structural design, thermal engineering, and compliance with international norms. It also showcases Rainbow's ability to support mission-critical infrastructure projects, especially in regions with demanding environmental conditions.

As the digital economy accelerates and data centers expand across Hong Kong and neighboring markets, Suzhou Rainbow Environmental Equipment Co., Ltd. continues to demonstrate its dedication to innovation, quality, and engineering excellence. The completion of this project marks another step forward for Rainbow as it solidifies its role as a leader in advanced exhaust system solutions for industrial and data-center applications worldwide.
